Information collected when you visit

This publication does not operate advertising, reader accounts or comments. Its first-party readership measurement does not use cookies or create a persistent visitor identity. Optional Microsoft Clarity analytics are used only when a visitor accepts analytics cookies.

Like most websites, the services that host and protect the site may process limited technical information needed to deliver it securely. This can include an IP address, browser and device information, approximate location, requested pages, timestamps and security logs. Such information is used for operation, reliability and protection against abuse.

When you join the Quiet Briefing

If you choose to join the Quiet Briefing, your email address and subscription information are passed securely to Buttondown, the publication's email-list and newsletter-delivery provider. Buttondown uses this information to manage your subscription, send confirmation and briefing emails, and provide unsubscribe controls.

The reader list is separate from Being Human. It is not sold, used for advertising or shared for unrelated marketing. You can unsubscribe using the link in any briefing, or ask for your address to be removed by writing to ourinsignificantworld@gmail.com.

Privacy-conscious readership measurement

The publication uses a small first-party measurement system to understand whether essays are being found and read. It records aggregate events such as a page view, 30 seconds of engaged reading, scroll milestones, reaching the end of an essay, following a companion link and selecting a sharing option.

These records contain the page, date, broad device type and—when available—the referring website’s hostname. The publication does not store an IP address, a full referrer address, advertising identifier, fingerprint or persistent visitor ID in its readership records. This means the figures can describe reading patterns, but are not designed to follow an identifiable person across visits or websites.

Optional Microsoft Clarity analytics

With your permission, the publication uses Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors navigate and interact with the site. Clarity may collect interaction data such as page visits, clicks, scrolling, device and browser information, approximate location, and session recordings or heatmaps. This helps identify reading patterns and usability problems; it is not used by this publication for advertising.

Clarity does not load until you select “Accept analytics.” If you decline, the site continues to work and no Clarity script or analytics cookie is loaded. Your choice is stored in your browser so the site can remember it. You can review or change the choice at any time using “Cookie choices” in the footer.

When you contact the publication

The contact route opens an email to the publication’s dedicated address, ourinsignificantworld@gmail.com. Information you choose to send—such as your name, email address and message—will be used to read and respond to your enquiry, and retained only as long as reasonably needed for that purpose or for a related legal obligation.

Please do not send confidential medical, financial or similarly sensitive personal information through a general enquiry form.
